My future classroom should be bright, colorful, and respectful for all. Creating a fun and safe environment for learning. It should also be personalized to my students each year. A fun idea would be to have the students help me design the bulletin board or bring in something they are interested to put onto the board. This allows them to feel some pride and ownership in their classroom
My classroom will also have things such as yoga balls and fidgets to help children focus. We cannot expect children to sit down and sit still for hours at a time without movement. “wiggle” or “stretch” time can be really efficient for giving kids a brain break and allowing them to move around a bit! We wouldn’t enjoy sitting all day without the chance to move, so why make developing children go through that?
I will always make an effort to greet all of my students every day, making them feel special. Knowing every single students name and addressing them by name makes them feel recognized.
At the beginning of the year I’d like to include writing prompts to encourage students to tell me about themselves and so I can get to know them. They will feel listened to and respected promoting teacher acceptance.
At the start of the year, students can also help me come up with classroom guidelines. They will feel more inclined to follow the rules if they are the ones who came up with/are enforcing them. This works as a great behavioral reference.
I will communicate with all of my students’ parents to discuss religious or cultural backgrounds for all-inclusive education. Whether the parents would like to write me a letter or have a face-to-face meeting I will try to make myself available for both. This keeps the parent involved in the child’s education which is something I find important.
Promoting peer acceptance is valuable in the classroom because when students feel accepted they tend to do better in school. Fun get-to-know-you activities can be really beneficial for children to get to know one another and find things in common.
Having my lesson plans available for all types of learners (hands-on, visual, audial, etc.) is vital for learning. Nothing should be done one way. I know I learn differently and at a different pace than others and I want to try to keep that in mind.
I’m committed to continuing my education and learning to better support my students. Rather than becoming stagnant in my knowledge.
With continuing my knowledge I will attempt to stay up to date on the latest technology and work on integrating that into the classroom.
I will not teach to the test, I will teach for knowledge in the subject that can potentially be applied in real life.
In my classroom, I will apply mastery learning so students can move at their own pace without feeling rushed or inadequate.
I hope to become an open-minded teacher who is always ready to learn and pursue new ideas. I hope to share my passion for learning with my students every day.
I aspire to keep my personal life out of my classroom and come to work every day with a positive attitude no matter my struggles at home. This is important because it has been proven students moods will reflect the mood of their teacher. I wouldn’t want to negatively impact my students in any way. You get out what you put in!
